This lion is sitting on top of a hill with his head raised. He seems to be scenting the air and watching for danger but he is alert and confident in his abilities. I wanted to show the windswept quality of his mane. This is one painting that people could not identify until I got to the final mane details and the light coloring on his face. Once you see him as a lion could you ever think he is an owl? That was people’s first guess.
